XX edition of the International Junior Basketball Tournament of Santa Cruz, Tenerife

Audie Norris has been the guest of honor in the International Junior Basketball  tournament of Santa Cruz organized by CB Unelco and its president Paco Chinea in which proclaimed champion of the tournament was  Real Madrid.

The teams participating in this year’s tournament are as follows: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, CSKA Moscow, CB Unelco, Stellazurra Basketball Academy Roma, Canarias Basketball Academy, Canterbury Lions, Tara Basketball, Tenerife Selection and USK Future Stars Prague.

Since 1990 the UNELCO Basketball Club has organized the International Junior Tournament on the Island of Tenerife, which has been hosting the top international teams and also counting on the participation of top level national teams and Club teams from the Canaries.

The Tournament is a benchmark for the best of the best basketball competition for the category of Junior Basketball competitions during the Christmas holiday break. This tournament has a long history of young promising talent that today are a reference in Spanish basketball for example: Tenerife’s Sergio Rodríguez, or players like Juan Carlos Navarro and Pau Gasol (FC Barcelona), Pablo Aguilar (Real Madrid) or Victor Claver (Pamesa), Roberto Guerra and Mario Fernández (Gran Canaria) Felipe Reyes (Real Madrid), Daniel Clark (Estudiantes), and other players of the CB Unelco such as Oliver Arteaga, Jaime Heras, Richi Guillen , Nacho Guigou, Álex López, Pedro Fariña, Iván Báez  to name a few…

The tournament has had the participation of top Club teams such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Joventut Badalona, Estudiantes, Pamesa Valencia, Kai Zaragoza, Unicaja, Gran Canaria, Telde Heidelberg, CBA Academy, etc…

And at the international level such as CSKA Moscow, Olimpia de Ljubljana, Tofaş de Estabmul, Switzerland National Team, Stella Azurra (Roma) …

Always counting on the participation of teams from the islands of which their own CB Unelco participated and others like the C.B. Santa Cruz, Basket Arona de Tenerife or Gran Canaria Group Dunas and C.B. Telde.

The tournament has also held the 3 point and dunk competitions, where the qualities of the young athletes have been seen.

The venue for the tournament was held at Municipal Palace of Sports of Santa Cruz in Tenerife, which hosted the games and was once the official venue for the Basketball World Cup Games held in Spain “Mundo-Basket 1986”.

The venue has one of the best arenas for the game of basketball with the capacity for almost 5,000 spectators.

The Tournament is supported by the main institutions of Tenerife and the Federation of Basketball.
